Redbud is native to the Southeastern United States and the Great Plains as an understory tree in forests.
It is tolerant of full sun to part shade and fertile clay to sandy soils. It makes a good street-tree or an element in a wooded landscape.

Redbud produces impressive light-purple flowers in early spring, before leafing out. These flowers attract pollinators and support native bee species and are edible. Its seed pods provide food for birds.
