  • Red buckeye is native to the coastal plain and Piedmont of the Southeast.

    This tree prefers moist, well-drained soils but is tolerant of a range of soil types. It prefers partial shade.

  • Red buckeye produces showy red flowers in the spring, which attract butterflies and hummingbirds. In the fall, its leaves turn red. It produces shiny nuts which are toxic to humans but a good food source for squirrels.
