It prefers shade and moist, fertile, well drained soil. It does well in shady garden conditions and along streams.

Bottlebrush buckeye [roduces upright panicles of white flowers in the spring which are attractive to pollinators. It produces shiny inedible seeds and golden-yellow foliage in the fall.
